So my 2001 130TDI has developed the dreaded intermittent alarm problem.

I've checked and cleaned the drain holes under the battery and had an independent garage seal up the pollen filter housing. The carpet was lifted and there was no sign of any water ingress effecting the CCU. After all this, the alarm still keeps going off.

To keep peace with the neighbours, I've been disconnecting the battery at nights.

My question is, have I reset the error codes/logs by disconnecting the battery and will I have to keep it connected until the alarm goes off again (at 3am or some other unsociable hour) so an autoelectrician can read them ?

Your alarm's back up battery may be depleted, search the forum for ways to replace/mend . Usually, disconecting the battery would not erase all the fault codes, but it might put the car in a learning state as the basic settings will be erased. Hope this helps.

    Hi Mike T,
One other item to check is the internal sensor switch. On my 2001 estate there is a switch behind the driver's seat that allows you to turn the internal sensors on/off. These switches can sometimes become stuck so it may be worth checking this out and giving it a clean.

    Hope this helps,
    David.

Thanks David, I'll give it a go.
I was pressing the switch and I can't tell when its on or off. Nothing lights up on the switch or the dash ? confused.
