ok, my dad said that my rear axle bushes need doing on my car, my car is a mk4 s reg golf, 1.6 petrol if this helps?
now i know that they do definatly need doing, but im quite short on money and would rather if possible do it myself to save money, would anybody be able to let me know if this is an easy job? and able to be done with basic equipment as ive been quoted around 300-400 pounds...which is money i don't have! help!

Hi, its douable if you really good with spanners and you have some decent tools, however, its time consumming and very frustrating. The bushes are about 15 quid (Lemforder ) from Euro Car Parts and will take a minimum of 6 Hours to install with basic tools- few big G-clamps, few blocks of wood, metal plates/washers, a big vice and a mate to help ! Change the shocks while you are there. Remove the axle of the car all toghether and place the car on axle stands, be carefull when removing the brake lines and the ABS sensors and pay attention to the way the bushes go. Laser do a special tool to press the bushes in, never tried it, but i heard good words of it. Failling that, i would cough up and pay someone to do right as it will take less time and there is no risk of injuring yourself !

I was quoted £350 from a main VW dealer, so I looked around and went to a "specialist" and he did it for £122 all in, so it clearly pays to shop around!

Having said that, I'm not that happy with the work he has done so ya pays ya money etc.....
