Hello, I have just had to have my Flywheel replaced after 28k, thank fully it is still in warranty, it is for a 2.0 TDI, has anyone else had the same? Is it normal for one to go so new?

Also the dealer recommended that it might be worth my while replacing the clutch! Is he after a quick buck or is it something worth considering?

    Cheers

    Hi

I also have a 2.0 TDI (05 plate) which was the subject of a recall in regards to the flywheel. This fault effected Tourans, Golfs and Golf Plus', with 2.0 TDI and 6 speed manual gearboxs.
I got a letter in May 2006, asking me to book the car into a VW dealer to be checked. Luckily mine didn't need replacing.

The twin-mass flywheel can get damaged because of a not optimally designed through-flow restrictor in the clutch pressure pipe. This can lead to a total failure of the twin-mass flywheel and under unfavourable circumstances to a vehicle fire.

If they've replaced your flywheel under warranty because of this known fault, then I think the clutch should also be replaced under warranty.

Maybe give VW UK a ring?

That's great, mine is a 55 plate I'm not sure if it was ever brought in by another owner, i will check, i'm slightly annoyed by their manner and i'll ask them,

Would the clutch also be damaged?

The two are actually connected, so at an educated guess, I would say yes, and I've heard of other people who have had the fault with the flywheel having their clutch changed too at the same time, but to be 100% sure, I'd check with a mechanic first.

Glad I could be of some help, let me know how it goes.

    Katherine

Howd you get that info Katherine!? Good info, and almost right The 2.0 TDI flywheels were recalled purely because of the fire issue..... because of being made from magnesium..... which gcse chemitry shows is slightly combustable!

I doubt the dealer will replace the clutch. It wouldnt be damaged by the reason this product was recalled. Yet if youve got 100k+ on the car (?) youd be well advised to replace the clutch while theyre at it as it wouldnt have much life left.
