Hello i have a similar problem in my 2001 A6 everything works fine while the ignition is off and the key in the barrel. But when i turn on the ignition the volume goes through the roof and none of the buttons on the head unit work at all. Turn the key off again and the volume stops rising and all the buttons work......very frustrating!!
Did you ever work out what the problem was, or how to fix it???
    Regards Bish

EEPROM failures cause numerous faults on these units and are very common.
Not easy to replace unless you're competent with SMD's.
But what do I know. I have no 'rep power'.

    First time posting...

Have an Audi A4 2001 model 1.9 TDi. CD / radio player has sudelnly malfunctioned. All buttons on the right of the console work eg TP, Mode etc. However on the left side the CD eject button doesnt work, same applies for FM and CD buttons.

On top of this CD functions sometimes work, and the radio stations hop around.

The unit does play some kind of music some of the time, but not to the standard I need.

Any ideas, can I fix it for cheap, shall I talk to Audi, or buy another unit on Ebay?

    thanks all!

Greetings, I have a 2005 Audi A4 quattro and my CD player stopped ejecting CD's, my 2005 A4 Avant also developed the same problem. Both units had 6 CD's that would not eject. The problem on both symphony stereos is this: The eject system is driven by a small gear that is activated when you eject the CD's. Both stereos have this gear broken. I can fix them, but I haven't found a source for the small gears. I'm tempted to make my own out of brass and end this problem until the stereos fry. Q. would anyone know of a source for the gear or gear kit? It would take some time to make the gears and I want to avoid it if I can purchase the kit.
Please reply and let me know.
    Cheers.
