First of all, apologies for the long windedness of this thread, its my first one and i wanted to get in as much info as possible!

Can anyone please help me, i have an Audi A4 1.8T, 2001 (newer shape). I have noticed recently that on occasion when the front passenger door has been closed the interior light does not go off even though the engine is running and the on board computer does not show that the door is still open, the door has to be opened and closed again ( a little firmer!) to turn out the light.

Yesterday morning I opened the car with the remote and we all tried to get in, every door opened but the front pax door! I tried all avenues in regard of locking and unlocking maually with the key at the drivers door, the quick lock switch on the inside of the drivers door but no success. I then disconnected the battery and reconnected it and this solved the fault initially, but two or three unlock/lock's later the same problem occurred, but this time in reverse, when i locked the car i noticed the indicators didn't flash, so i checkad all the doors, they are all locked apart from the front pax door!

I have again disconnected / reconnected the battery and again it's ok for two / three lock/unlock but then it happens again.

I have also noticed the following things that may help, when i open the car with the remote or key, the indicators flash, but when i lock it they dont (unless all is well!) the electric window on the same door will not work from either switch whilst this problem occurs and also i have also noticed that while this is going on the little red light that normally flashes on the drivers door is not working, i therefore presume i have no alarm!

    Please Help Me!!!!

Hi The little red light is an indiction of what is called safe function, without going into details i think you have a problem with one of the door locks, and since the interior light does not go out when the passenger door is closed,it would suggest it is the pasenger door lock.To verify this you should have a fault code read.

Thanks Kenney, after much messing i think i have narrowed it down to either the control module in the drivers door or the actuator in the pax door.

The problem i now have is the pax door is locked and wont open no matter what i do!!!

    Any ideas??

Hi A frustrating problem, but usually with a little patience, one gets the door open.Try thumping with your fist around the area where the door lock is situated,at the same time using the key fob to lock and unlock the door,if you can have someone inside the car pulling on the interior door opener at the same time.If ths should fail then there is no other alternative than to remove the door trim to get to the lock.

If any other poor soul suffers this problem then this is how to solve it!

I managed to get the door open by opening all of the other doors, the bonnet & the boot! it must be a failsafe or something and Audi didn't even know about it!

Once i had got the door open i managed to remove the trim and check the wiring etc, i eventually found that the can bus wires inside the rubber boot between the door pillar and the door were both broken, in fact they had broken before and some t*** had just taped them up!

They had eventually just worked free again and seperated, essentially killing the power to the door. I replaced the wiring and did a proper repair job with a soldering iron and hey presto, everthing is back to normal, the door works fine, locks / unlocks and the window works too!!

Thanks for your help with this Kenny!
