I won't see the vehicle until this weekend but I understand the issue is the mature driver with arthritis is struggling to press the central horn button on a 2007 T5 transporter - which I guess makes it one of the four spoke steering wheel versions from photos I have seen on the net.

I'm thinking three possible solutions where I'd appreciate any advice:

    1. Swap the steering wheel. The three spoke steering wheel I have seen on the later T5 seem to have horn buttons at each side of the airbag. Are these reasonably sensitive to press? i.e. EASIER than the centre press on the four spoke? Presumable four and three spoke steering wheels are readily interchangeable? Bit of an expensive option though....

    2. Rig up a separate switch in parallel to the horn button mounted close to the steering wheel rim. Two questions - can anyone confirm the wire colour code for the horn button, and also that the horn is fed off a relay as I would expect?

    3. Is it feasible to make the button easier to press? i.e. I am not clear whether the horn button is an integral part of the airbag unit OR whether the whole airbag unit is sprung and presses in against a switch beneath. Either way, is softer springing feasible?

    TIA, Midge
