    Hi

    first time post.

I was considering remapping my ecu to get a bit more oomph from my 1999 A4 1.9TDi 100, and was looking at some of the bargains on ebay. I was wondering if anyone has done this and if so, what other components need to be changed or adjusted.

Can anyone recommend which software/hardware to use so I can do it from my PC (vista). Anyone know which "ebay bargains" to avoid so I don't get ripped off?

    Cheers

I don't know if you mean those "tuning boxes" that they sell on ebay for a couple of quid, but avoid them at all costs! They're just a resistor that makes the engine think it's colder than it is and add more fuel. All they do is use more fuel.

There are proper tuning boxes that adjust the signals to the ecu to make it adjust certain settings. As far as I know, they don't affect boost pressure.

From what I've read (I'm looking into it too), a generic or custom remap is the way to go. If you can get hold of a generic map for your engine, you may find a way to flash the chip yourself but it could end in tears!

I'm going to leave mine to the professionals, because I need my car every day and can't afford for it to be out of action. There is a company called chipped uk which seems to be the one recommended on here and their prices look reasonable too.

    Hope that helps.

hi guys just as a matter of interest last week i fitted a bobbox to my v6 a4 audi 2.5tdi and raised the output from 163 hp to 196 hp --the performance is 'scary' and the economy amazing ( about double what it was before)--it cost £258 delivered and is guaranteed--i would recommend it --cheers

chip-n-spin above chipped my car at a chippeduk day, mine is a petrol 1.8T, but i can recommend them and the results for a tdi should be pretty impressive.

stay clear of cheap ebay stuff.

    Galanc.

Take your car to a dyno. The "on paper" hp gains with the powerboxes are a "tad" overexagerated.
