    Welcome to the forum.

As far as I remember, if the oil light comes on yellow/orange then it means the oil level is too low and if the light comes on red then it means the oil pressure is too low. If you've checked and you're sure the oil level is correct then I'd be inclined to say the oil level sensor is faulty. I don't think the yellow gooey stuff on the filler cap is too much to worry about especially with the weather being so cold the engine can be prone to condensation mixing with the oil. Get it connected to VAG-COM if you can, this would diagnose if it is a faulty sensor or take it to a garage and get their opinion.

Hi as for the yellow stuff on cap i had that on my mk4 2.0 gti the other week my girlfriend only drives a couple of miles each time she uses it. i did a compression test it was good i cleaned the cap and then went on a couple of long drives done about 120 miles since checked the cap this morning its still clean no yellow stuff in sight. Just keep an eye on the temp gauge if it starts getting hotter than normal then get it checked if temp is normal its just condensation in the cap. aaron
