Hi all, firstly I'd like to say hello to everyone. I'm a newbie on here and new to forums, this is my first post so please be gentle 😉
I've just made the switch from BMW to Audi on Saturday and have to say I'm already happy with my decision. I've just got myself a 2007 Audi A6 Avant 2.0 TDI auto and must say its the most comfortable smoothest drive I've ever experienced, I love it ! I'm just trying to get the hang of my MMI 2g high but don't seem to have Bluetooth or voice activation, am I missing something here ? My firmware version is 4220 I believe, would updating the firmware give me these options ? I also can't find any manual audio inputs so am I right in thinking that I can only play music from CD's or mp3 CD ?

You need to retrofit bluetooth, see the forum and internets for more info.

Again for audio inputs, check out audi music interface, xcarlink or dension units.

Welcome, I moved from BMW to Audi a tthe back end of last year too. With regards to Bluetooth, I can only tell you what had happened in my car. I pressed the TEL button and it said telephone not connected, likewise my phone didn't see the car. This puzzeled me, so some digging and I found that the BT module lives under the carpet in the passengers footwell. Motor the passenger seat fully back, remove the mat and the carpet comes up easy enough. There's a black box with very fiddley clips on that houses the BT ECU. In my case it was fitted, but had an optic loop bypass on. When I reconnected the BT module, it dragged the entire MMI system down. I stripped the BT module apart and found it had been subject to water ingress. I replaced the module and it has worked perfectly ever since. First bit of advice would be to see if you've got the mudule fitted, or the wiring for it in the passengers footwell.

You can retrofit BT fairly easily if you haven't, but cross the bridge as and when. I should add, there is no streaming capability on the 2G MMI BT system!

With regards to iPod/mp3 connectivity, there is indeed no 3.5 mm jack or USB as standard on most cars. You can retrofit the Audi Music Interface (AMI) for a couple of hundred quid to get Ipod conectivity though. Chris found a cheaper option, I'll try and dig up the thread.

Thanks Chris and Rob, at least I now have a much better idea of where to start ! I will check out under the seat tomorrow and see what I've got, am I right in thinking that add on units for audio connect through the optical connection on the back of the changer unit ? Thanks again 😀

You can replace the CD changer with an AMI unit, they're about £300. AMI will connect to an iPod or iPhone, you can also get a modified AMI cable that will put an A2DP Bluetooth unit on the end of the cable to stream to, but you'll lose all track info and remote control options from the MMI system.

Cheers guys, with regards to the audio I will shop around and see what's my best option. I will dig deeper to see whether or not i have the BT module fitted and let u know how I get on, I'm a bit jealous of my m8 now who has the DVD nav unit with the SD slot 😕

It's easy to find out if you have BT, press the tel button and if you get message "telephone not installed" then you will need to get the hardware fitted. The DVD nav with the SD slots in the front is MMI 3G.

You could check the PR codes to see if BT was fitted at the factory.
There should be a sticker in the spare wheel well and also on the inside front cover of the service book.
You can find a decoder on the Web. ..
