Can anyone recommend a good quality but not overly expensive bike rack that will fit my saloon. At present it will be to carry 2 adult bikes and 1 child bike.

Do you have a tow bar? Not had any luck with the ones that strap on. Not that secure and good chance they will scratch your paint.

As Apole says.....the only rear mounted items I'd try would be attached to a towbar. Anything else is just too flimsy and vulnerable. I also don't like my bikes to be in the midst of the road spray / salt coming off the back wheels. And it would be too easy for someone to give them a nudge or even to nick them when parked up.

Always have and always will use roof-racks which needn't be too expensive. Yes, they blunt mpg but that's a small price to pay for safe and clean bikes. The systems needn't cost the earth although with a nice motor like yours you should be looking at Thule Aerobars and 521 carriers...... I know they suit my much more modest model very well indeed.

No i don't have a tow bar and certainly don't want to scratch anything. I'll leave that to her and car parks 😭

As to blunting fuel economy 😃 bit late for that i reckon.

Think i better look into roof options 👍

Few years ago i bought 3 VW genuine cycle carriers and roof bars. Later i found out they were made by Mont Blanc and model called Barracuda. I think they were the same as genuine Audi ones.

They are really well built (looks better built than Thule ones) and I have never had a problem with them. It's got slots for both wheels to go in so no front wheel wobble like some carriers give you. Bikes are secure on the roof even at speeds of 80-90mph. You do get a bit of wind noise, but I can't fault them.

Try EBay for Thule 591 and Thule Aerobars. Got all my kit from there and well pleased. Looks modern, goes well with the car.

Hi bops6, Unfortunately Mont Blanc went bump so you'd either have to find some second hand ones (genuine) or go for Thule wing bars which are more aerodynamic, you can search the correct kit here:
    Thule Roof Bars

Then the different choices of Thule roof mounted carriers you can also find here: Thule Cycle Carriers

    Cheers.

If you go down the roof bar mounted route I would highly recommend the Thule ProRide 591. They are rock solid, I run four MTBs on my set up.

For some reason they cheapest at Ford Dealers I picked mine up for £62 each inc VAT. (Stoneacre Ford)
