What audi engine ?

Hi All

I have a vw t25 crew-cab, I had the engine changed a few years ago the guy that installed it has moved to France and cant get hold of him anymore.

I am not sure what engine it is I cant find any numbers on the engine. The numbers off the ecu comes back as audi 1996 but seems the same for petrol and diesel all I know is it's a 1.9 tdi engine and has no diagnostics plug it has gone into limp mode I have had a new turbo put on it as the outer housing was cracked this has still not made any difference I am going to try somethings which I have read on this forum.

But would still like to know what engine it is can anyone tell me a way to find out or if I can take pics of certain things you can tell me the engine type.

Also forgot to ask as there is no diagnostic plug it there any other way of reading the ecu ?

Part number on the ecu? The engine number should be stamped on the block somewhere I think along with a sticker on the timing belt cover.

If it's a tdi the plug is different from a 16 pin one fitted to a car. I think it's a round connection as it's a re-badged Merc

ok, so its a 4 pot tdi, possibly a 1z from an audi 80. it should have a diag socket, its in the fuse box on the audi, 2 plugs, both 2 pin, one black one red.
only time mine goes into limp mode is when it overboosted. theres a n75 valve that controls the turbo wastegate and this had packed up. hit 3k rpm and she died. turn off and on and she was good to go . you can test the solonoid by putting 12v to it and it should click. if not, replace it. 60 notes from vw.
