Hi All. First off apologies if wrong section I'm on taptalk and new to forum

I have a Bkd mk5 golf 140hp timing belt due. I've been quoted following all genuine parts

Timing belt tensioner and pulleys 365

I also asked for prices on following

    Alternator belt 20
    Alternator pulley 85(if needed)
    Thermostat 40-65

Is it worth doing the thermostat alternator belts and pulley. The car is getting a full coolant change when timing belt done. No heating issues atm

I could do them at a later date if needed just need to know if it's worth doing. Car is currently booked in Monday for job

you want a new water pump as well, pointless doing the belt and not doing the pump. the alternator belt has to come off, so pointless putting the old one back on. the alternator pulley, thats easy enough to do unless it is siezed now, and the stat is easy enough to do as well, so i would leave the stat and pulley and just do the belt and kit, waterpump and alt belt. the coolant needs draining to do the pump so thats that taken care of.

Sorry the price for timing belt job is timing belt new water pump coolant change pulleys and tensioner

Don't think u have any existing issues with my alternator at the moment but I may get the belt done and the alternator belt as it only adds another 20

Thanks for clarification. The original job when quoted was the kit and the person said the alt belt adds another 20 to it to so I'll do them

20 is just the price of the belt, no extra labour as its off anyway, so silly not to do it.

I would think so but I've heard good and bad things about the garage my brother can do it but I'd rather have the warranty of a garage so they're liable if anything goes wrong

they are easy enough to do, a bit tight and fiddly and you must use the right locking tools and use the right coolant afterwards, and everything must be torqued up properly. if you don't trust the garage then don't use them, simple as that.

I have no basis to trust them because I've never used them before I'm still going to them. End of the day if my car is damaged they will pay for it. Thanks for the help
