gearbox noise when brake pressed - A6 (2012) Auto 2.0 tdi

Sorry if this is in the wrong section..

I've owned an A6 for 3 months now (2012 model, 2.0 TDI automatic) and I've just noticed a noise from the gearbox console when I press the brake pedal.

This only happens when the engine is running and either park or neutral is selected. The brake pedal only needs a light tough to activate the lights, so I assume it is an electrically linked noise of some sort.

Has this always been the case and I've never noticed before? or does this mean I have an electrical/transmission issue?

Audi can't book it in for a couple of weeks to look at it (!) so thought would sense check on here first?

The drive is fine, the clunk/knock noise is simply when park/neutral engaged and the brake pedal touched.

so, select park or neutral, engine running, no foot on brake, can you now move the shifter out of park or neutral without pressing the brake. now press the brake and repeat the test.

One of those things I guess that you don't notice for a while after buying the car and then it becomes more evident ! I've only had the car 3 months so easily explained.
