Post retrofit problems - MFSW & MFD

Hi, starting to bite my nails and pull my hair out..

I retrofitted a MFSW and MFD to my car, however the airbag light is lit and the MoT is looming.....

I have attached two scans - one from before the retrofit and the other a recent scan since the retrofit which a local guy has done for me, he's no expert and 'feels out in the cold' with this, he apparently is able to spot faults, but not able to assist with retrofitting.

So, in attaching the scans, I'm hoping that someone will be able to spot the incompatibilities for me? Hopefully I'll be able to compile a 'shopping list' of the parts I need to fix this and extinguish the airbag light!!!

My car's an estate with cruise control, the donor parts came from a saloon - so I need to find the correct stalk controls to get back the use of my rear wiper back also, (can someone advise on this too)?

The donor car's airbag was a single igniter unit, whilst my car's original fit was a dual igniter airbag..

I've retrofitted the entire stalks, clockspring, ECU assembly from the saloon onto my estate - so regarding the airbag issue, there may be an incompatibility between my car's airbag ECU (mounted on the floor in front of the heater controls, under the dash) and the donor car's clockspring / clockspring stalk ECU/Airbag??

Hi Jon.

Regarding your airbag problem, your car's airbag ECM is setup for two steering wheel airbag igniters and the donor airbag only has one. So the igniter that is no longer there is shown as open circuit (resistance upper limit exceeded in VW speak).

I see you've fitted an RCD510 to your car. I'm pretty sure you'll also need to update/replace your Gateway ECU with that radio fitted to prevent battery drain problems.

I'm no expert at these sorts of retrofits but from what I can see from your scan, you now have a phone on the installation list. Did you take the phone ECU wiring from the donor car too? If not, I'm guessing you will need to recode the installation list in the gateway to remove the phone. That would probably get rid of the gateway incorrect coding DTC.
You'll probably also need to recode the radio if the phone ECU hasn't been fitted, so that would probably get rid of that incorrect coding DTC too.
And you'd need to recode the steering elec ECU after you refit the estate stalk switches. As I say, I'm no expert but I think you just need a bit of recoding done.

Hi Jim,

Changed the Canbus gateway too its an 'E' version, so all's sweet with radio, media in and phone's great - only issue is the airbag light......

Just a thought but, if I fit an airbac control unit / airbag ECU that matches the single igniter airbag, this should fix the airbag light issue shouldn't it?

The blown airbag - (I have a replacement) is: 00XE07GWYBJ - 1K0880201BT1QB - 61921051B.

Can anyone help me to suss out what airbag ECU / control unit number/s I need to look for?? Would be really really grateful
