    Hi all...anyone experienced this.

This morning I put 30 litres of deisel on top of about a quarter of a tank. ( 2010 1.6 tdi ). I drove approx 1/8th of a mile and then it wouldnt start.

I have taken it to my local repair man immediately.

    How worried should I be.

He will drain it (and you won't get the fuel back) the clean everything and you should be fine. Will cost you about £500.

My brothers Mrs has done this 3 times!

£800.00....what in gods name type of garage are you using. It should be at least a quarter of that.

The AA would have done it at the roadside for 240.00. My own regular mechanic will charge less than half.

    Meant 500 sorry.

But if you knew the answer why ask the question?

I did not ask how much it would cost to solve the actual fuel issue.

I asked ..should I be worried. i.e. is there anything that may be completely damaged and cause serious problems.

I'd be worried unless the job is done properly. Those little engines are sensitive to supermarket diesel never mind petrol.

diesel is a lubricant, petrol isn't. running petrol through the high pressure pump can cause wear. small particles of metal are removed and block the tiny nozzles in the injectors. particles can also find their way back to the fuel tank and damage the lift pump. all in all, i would be pretty worried really. you might be ok, you might be facing a bill of a few grand. there is no right or wrong way to drain the fuel and refill the tank, any damage will already have been done when the petrol went through the injection system.
