Apologies for the stupid question, wanted to double check. Went to my local independent and amongst other things asked about changing my original (pre facilities 2006) headlamp to xenons. His view was that you needed to be very careful and should stick with originals. Having searched here it seems that lots of people have done it without any problems.

Is there anything to worry about? Is it just not a change of bulb?

You need headlight washers, an automatic levelling system and projectors not just reflectors.

if you have halogens and want xenons, you will need complete xenon projector headlamps, ballasts and wiring, self levelling of some description, either in the headlamp or suspension, and headight washers. with all that fitted, as per a factory fit xenon hid equipped car, you will be legal and able to pass an mot test.

No it's not just a change of bulbs, it requires a lot of hardware and even more so if you want to keep it legal.. Best search the forum and you will find posts like this.

I'd not bother you're legal as you are and some xenon A6 drivers complain about theirs (not me though as think they're fab!)

If you want them just remember to add that to your 'next car' list of must haves.

One of the dipped bulbs has gone, looking at the replacement alternatives, will the osram nightbreaker unlimited be OK or should I stick with standard osram offering? Appreciate that both should be changed.

go with the nightbrakers, they are legal and will give much better and nicer output than standard bulbs . a lot of people use them including myself and are all very happy.
