CANBUS Festoon LED bulbs for number plates or not ?

A much discussed topic within various forums, but lots of differing opinions as well.

Looking for a simple answer - do the CANBUS LED bulbs work as a replacement for the stock yellow's or do I need to purchase the complete units?

Should I avoid even trying the CANBUS types (I've got some arriving tomorrow that cost a fiver, worth a try?)

Any pointers/experience specific to the B8's (Sept 2010) would be welcome as I've gone a bit 'forum blind' reading many posts

The Canbus leds worked for me in my 2008 SE. Just a straight swap.
