I have replaced the aerial with the correct OEM one . The reception on AM seems really poor. Any ideas is there a booster?

If you put on a booster it may just boost the interference. I'm assuming its a proper aerial and not built into the rear screen. If so, you may need to run a new coaxial lead.

    Chrisevans69,

Are you saying you don't have those brown, screen-printed lines in the side windows at the back?

I thought these were the AM ariels, and the one on the roof was only for FM... Somewhere there must be a connection between these and the coax going to the radio..(maybe on the inside of the headlining, going to the FM ariel so the same coax can be used)

If they are not AM ariels, no idea what else they could be!

Just Googled this and you are right . I will have a quick check to see f there are any breaks in the aerial and then maybe check the booster (if there is one)
