How many devices can the MMI connect to at once? In total, as media, as phone?

I'd always assumed it was one but had my phone hooked up and my wife's as a media player.

Being lazy rather than testing more myself but figure somebody will know already.

Only one as a phone unfortunately. Not tried more than two devices in total.

Up to 8 devices. Extract from Audi Connect page "And that’s not all: using Audi connect the car can become a mobile wireless hotspot, enabling passengers to surf the internet with up to eight mobile devices and download their e-mails. In the future, special smartphone functions will also facilitate new software functions in the car."

Not sure I've got enough devices to even test that!

Isn't that eight devices connected to the in-car wifi rather than 8 devices connected to the MMI via Bluetooth?

I believe that future iterations will allow full access to smartphone apps via mmi. Useful.

That is not connecting to the MMI - it's using the cars onboard wifi hub / router to allow up to 8 wifi devices to connect to the 3G / 4G (in facelift) data services from the SIM card - and I guess to each other if, for example, your kids want to play multiplayer games in the back of the car or you need to share data between laptops / tablets etc.

The MMI connection is via Bluetooth and it only allows one "phone" to connect at a time (so only one phone can receive / make calls using the cars speaker / microphones). From what you say it appears that a simultaneous connection to a music streaming profile is also allowed - and that could be a phone, iPad, android tablet, iPod touch etc I guess.

Not if the kids find out!

Grouch, I know you do the hotspot thing in reverse, and I'm currently looking at replacing my phone with an rSAP one (if Sony still use this protocol). My present phone allows a wi-fi hotspot, but also allows bluetooth tethering. Do you use the former? I just don't like having to remember to put the handset on charge to power the wi-fi. I guess bluetooth would be more efficient with the power.

My 3 SIM came up with the "not a phone" message yesterday, so I might explore the EE £1 a week SIM giving 100Mb and a just 10 outbound mins and texts (relying on cached maps). Failing that I can pinch a 1Gb data SIM from my tablet. rSAP would be a better solution with my unlimited data which appears to have no issue with tethering. I know there's a separate thread on this.

I have my phone connected as the primary source (and phone) and my wife has had her iphone and ipad connected as media sources at the same time - just standard MMi also
