Had a nice steady drive home tonight, 45 miles 50:50 motorways and when I stopped to fuel I noticed engine warning light was on.

Have scanned with VCDS and its reporting a MAF intermittent fault first logged at 7.48am this morning, and the car won't rev above 2500 rpm. I have cleared the light, which has stayed off but it's still in limp mode. Will this reset overnight giving me time to get to the dealer? I didn't notice the limp mode whilst driving as I guess I didn't go over 2500 rpm as it was such a steady run. It's under warranty so presume it will be a straight swap. My issue is I need to do a few miles this weekend, so if they can't fit tomorrow, which is highly likely given they never carry stock, would the audi breakdown cover give me a loan car? Anyone else had MAF issues on a 4G?

    thanks

You have breakdown/recovery cover, use it.

Yes I know that, but I pass the Audi dealer on the way to work in the morning, I need the car for the evening to pick my daughter up, and I've just got it back yesterday from having a new rear bumper fitted from a minor rear shunt, so to be fair I could do with out the hassle. As its the maf at fault, it should be ok to drive, and if its still stuck in limp mode tomorrow, then I'll just have to drive below 2500 rpm, which I did for 80 miles without realising today as was driving steady. Would be good to hear if anyone has had a similar issue with a MAF and if the limp mode may reset itself overnight. I have cleaerd the fault and the engine light.

Limp mode will keep coming back until the problem is fixed.

Thanks Chris, I would never have come to that conclusion on my own.

I am now wondering if it was in limp mode. Just been for a drive and it revs fine, but when stationary in park or neutral it wont rev over 2500 rpm - is that normal? Am I confusing this with limp mode?

Update - quick google suggests this is normal, trust me to discover this feature same moment I have an engine warning light, and assume the two are linked!

I just need to see if the engine light comes on again. I have tightened the jubilee clip on the pipe near the MAF to rule out an air leak. WIll report back, will be doing 200 miles tomorrow.

At standstill you can't rev above 2500 rpm, so this is unrelated to any other issues you might have,.

Hi All. What revs do you have in your 3.0 tdi 204BHP. I have them on around 800. Is it correct as I always though that all 3.0 TDI have the around 600? Please let me know if 800 is correct or I have something wrong with my engine. No errors in ECU.

Noog, you need to be more specific, do you mean 'idle revs'? Most cars will rev at around the 800 mark, certainly my profile pic car and my C6 do.

Why have you always 'thought that all 3.0tdi's' do, did yours previously?

Friend of mine had A5 3.0 Tdi and his idle revs were on around 600. Another has BMW X5 4.0 model in diesel and also his idle revs are on 600. Though that all 3.0 tdi idle revs are on 600. But if yours are on 800 and mine are 800 it means that my engine is running well.
