hi all I've just had my audi a4 avant 2004 back from having a load of work and been gone 4 months. got the car back and now have no speakers working. its the full pemium bose system with an updated sat nav head unit from a 2007 car. it intermittently has sound through the drivers door speaker and tweeter only. I have looked on some threads and people say the bose amps are prone to water getting into them but cant see any sign of that. ive also never had the head units many functions working. the bluetooth hasnt ever worked in my ownership.

should I remove the head unit and fit a modern unit but will lose the bose amp??? confused dot com. cant stand another 100mile commute with no tunes. ruinning a great car.

Before you start ripping out the HU I would fix the current fault, as from reading above it does sound like a faulty AMP, and they can fail without the water issues especially if you have the older style black Bose AMP. Also before you start replacing hardware just reseat the connector on the AMP and the quadlock connector on the back of the rns-e.

When you say the BT has never worked what do you mean, if you get a message on the screen about not installed the you need to retrofit the BT system, if you get the message about inserting sim, then you have an old module that is not compatible with the RNS-E or your BT module is incorrectly coded or the RNS-E is incorrectly coded.

Do you have access to VCDS to scan the car?

thanks for the reply. have opened the rear panel to find a black bose unit mounted above and to the left of an unmarked finned amp. No i dont have acess to vwds but could do if I put up with it for a few more weeks. so are you saying to disconnect the bose and the amp and refit?

Yer, just unplug the AMP and leave it for a few minutes. Would like to see a picture of the "unmarked finned amp" there should only be one AMP fitted to the car.

As said before unplug the large connector going into the AMP at the top. Leave it for a minute or 2 then reconnect. I would also try and do the same with the quadlock connector on the back of the RNS-E.

Guessing the amp and maybe the wiring is goosed??? removed the amp cleaned up connector replaced no difference. removed amp completely and just got the one speaker and tweeter workong in drivers door. surely the speakers should all work though obviously not as clearly/ loud as woth a working amp.

can anyone recommend someone to get this working without spending another grand on my less than perfect audi again this month??

Looks like water has got into the amp. I cannot remember but the rear washer pipe may run on that side. I would track down the water leak first before replacing the amp. A replacement AMP is all that is required and you can pick them up from ebay for £100.
