I'm hoping someone can please help me... because my local VW dealership is completely flummoxed!

All I want to do is play tunes from my iPhone 5.

I recently bought a 58' Reg 2009 VW Golf Mark 6, 2.0 TDi. It has a standard VW-fitted 'MDI' radio and single CD player. In the armrest is a connector which connects to the MDI system and the free end is a 'female' USB connector.

I ordered a different connector from VW, which would connect in the same way to the MDI system, and have the 'lightning' iPhone connector at the other end. It didn't work. VW gave me a slightly different one (one had a white end, one a green); neither worked.

In desperation I then ordered a connection from the MDI to an iPhone 4 connector - thinking that the small apple adaptor I already had might allow the iPhone 5 to connect via this, but again, nothing.

I was told I could put tracks on a USB stick and play them from there; even that hasn't worked. The MDI stereo could see something was connected, but apparently couldn't 'read' the tracks on there.

I'm otherwise really happy with my Golf (always been a VW fan) but this is driving me CRAZY!

Can anyone please tell me how I can play iTunes tracks through this car's stereo?

    Thank you!

    Harpur

Only one way i have ever been able to play music from my iphone through the stereo in my Golf.... I have to use the bluetooth connection on the iphone, i press play on the iphone and then the bluetooth icon lights up on the stereo, select this and the music starts to play through the car stereo. I have used every VW cable they have for iphone 5 onwards, makes no difference at all. The only thing they do is charge the phone, this is using the mdi slot in the armrest... I have had both the RCD 510 and also the RNS 510, both worked the same way. I use either the sd card slot on the front of the stereo or a usb stuck connected to the mdi socket to listen to my tunes.
