A6 3tdi Quattro Parking brake problem

My 2006 a6 has had a parking brake problem (vcds posted below), initially it was intermittent, I got the yellow symbol and parking brake malfunction, I used vcds to scan and try to clear the faults, but the same fault from the same date would not clear, it kept coming back (but with the same data and time), but now the red p symbol in the speedo keeps flashing and the dis show parking brake under diagnosis and i cannot turn it off (even though vcds is not connected), i have tried pulling the parking brake fuses but to no avail, I know the light in my brake switch is out, so ignore that, is the controller goosed or is it the motors/wiring?

Check the plug to the left hand rear caliper just incase its become damaged.

There was someone recently who had this sort of fault just search through the previous posts to find it.

The battery is original, have had no warnings or faults in the log, but will check and charge/replace if necessary, my worry is that the brake was working even though there was a fault before (only a warning in the dis) but now it does not work at all and i have a permanent flashing "P" symbol in the speedo, is the EPB control module goosed? is there any way to test it at the connector end at the brake?

I saw a thread here saying the flashing P symbol can be as a result of a wrong vag com scan http://www.justanswer.com/audi/7miii...attro-3-2.html. If so, how do i stop this?

I plan to look at connector on brake and strip/replace wire if necessary, is there any test i can do to see if the EPB module is outputting correct voltage here (with a voltmeter?)

Yes and as there's only 2 wires no chance of getting wrong one, pin 1 is + and pin 2 is -

I had a similar issue a few months back, can you close and open the park brake with VCDS? My park brake switch had failed so that was all that needed to be changed.

I can open and close the park brake with the switch actually no problem, not tried with the diagnosis software, I don't have it

Took connector off - peeled back the sleeving and one wire was cleaned snapped off due to corrosion, i have put a volmeter across the snapped with and other, onyl getting 0v, should it be >12V or something else, maybe the wire is corroded further down the line once i get it fixed, is there any adaption or procedure i need to do in vcds?
