    Hi,

My Le Mans (2.7 TDI) has done just under 133K now and still on the standard clutch & DMF however the company who had it before me had done about 100k in the car and majority was on motorways.

However the past couple of weeks I have noticed I get a judder when setting off sometimes. Mainly just 1st and 2nd, other gears seem fine.
I have tried putting the car in a higher gear and putting my foot down expecting the revs to go up indicating the clutch was on the way out but it seems OK.

Any ideas on what this is, not sure if it is a co-incidence but I notice it more once they car has been left for a while e.g in the morn when its been parked for 12 or so hours. You can also see the gear stick physically shaking when the judder appears.

Hoping it's not the DMF or Clutch as that will be big bucks!

It does sound like the clutch, and if it is the clutch it is worthwhile changing the DMF at the same time.

I used to get a lot of Judder in the manual, doing a lot of city work.. If you try riding the clutch for a little while. Mind you don't over do it, or you will burn the disc out. Would agree its on the way out as well.

Not the news I wanted to hear. Next month the insurance is due (Pay annually), needs new pads and a major service. As you say its likely going to need a clutch + DMF soon as well!!
Found a DMF online for £259 and a clutch for £130 and then fitting on top. How much do you think this would cost, maybe a days labor?

Hard to assess labour rates, you've not said whethr you'd be using a main dealer/indy or local mechanic? Also no idea where you are, for instance if London/SE typically labour rates are higher.

I have a local VAG trained mechanic that charges me £30 an hour and no VAT, with larger jobs he quotes a lower daily rate of £150 so am getting him to do all of my suspension arms and rear springs for that early next year

    Sorry.

Likely be a local mechanic who has a good name or a VAG specialist I have used before with my old Golf.
I am near Middlesbrough so should be cheaper then London.

I could live with £150 for a days rate. How long would it take a mechanic to complete do you think?

My clutch juddered as you describe when I first got it at 55k 4 years ago. I worried about having an imminent replacement to fund but it hasn't got any worse since. When it's cold it judders a bit but once you're moving it's fine. My advice is just to run with it and replace it when you have to, don't get it done now you might get loads of use out of it still. Oh, mine's currently on 128k on original clutch and DMF...

Likewise with mine...sometimes a bit of a judder ...has done it on and off for 4 years. When warmed up it doesn't do it. As poster above says wait till it gets worse (if it does) then get it looked at.

My car stopped juddering when I replaced glow plugs and used shell power diesel. These options might be worth trying before suspecting the clutch...
