This started a month or two ago, I was thrashing the car due to an emergency and the oil pressure light come on coming to my stop. I turned the car off pretty much straight away and turned it back on 10 minutes later. The car has been fine for weeks. The light came on again and I then turned it off and its been fine again. It also has done it tonight after hours of driving of different styles. It came on coming home when I was going about 30. I turned the car on and off and it went off.

The car is a 2.0 TDI A3 DSG 75k. However... It has had an engine replacement with a BKD engine out of a 2010 Touran around 13k ago. Honestly it's not been serviced for about 10k now but the level seems fine and I did put a bit in recently.

Any ideas what it could be? If there was no oil pressure then the car would of died - Especially after 3 times (weeks apart)

Palooza, suggest you get the car checked with VCDS as soon as possible. The oil pressure warning light on should have created a fault code. The fault code may indicate that the oil pressure sender is faulty, and that is easy to fix. Other possible issues may be the oil pump, clogged sump oil pickup pipe etc. Anyway, VCDS scan should be your first activity. Good luck.

Hi, had the car scanned today with VCDS and there was no fault codes in engine related things, only convenience modules ect. So really hoping its not a oil pump issue!

Damn. I would have expected a fault code describing a sensor failure. Only thing I could suggest would be to drop the sump and check the pickup pipe. Your engine came from another car, so perhaps no history of oil problems that may cause the current issues. Anyway, a quick and not too expensive a job (by an independent), and it just may throw up the solution. Do hope it's not the oil pump. By the way, do make sure that your battery is in really good health. A poor battery plays hell with the BKD engine controller, and causes all sorts of strange issues.
