    Hi all

    I'm posting here as I understand the Golf Mk5 uses the 1.4 TSI Turbo/supercharged engine (ours is in a 58 plate Touran) and i welcome views from the Golf fraternity! We're seeing two faults P0016 (Crankshaft/Camshaft Correlation?) and P2293 (Mechanical Malfunction - Intermittent?). Car is a 1.4 turbo/supercharged engine CAWC? 140HP. The car does run , and it did have the 'noisy on start-up' sound. It now has a rattly noise that could be top end and/or 'cam chain rattle' (I haven't taken a good look yet)

    Reading on this and other forum I feel this may be the same issue as

    VW Mk5 Golf TSi Engine & Timing Chain Problem - Adam Lewin

    Please can I ask
    - thoughts: is this likely to be the issue??
    - please can you point me to a site advising how to change the chain and tensioners if needed, also info on torque values for the bolts etc
    - which special tools are needed (I've seen this below but not sure if this is the right one ?) I expect additional or alternate specific special tools may be needed)

    VW TOOLS T10170 T10171 T40011 T10340 FSi CHAIN ENGINE TIMING TOOL KIT | eBay

    )

    Very greatful for any help, advice and pointers you can share

    I remain dissappointed that this has happened on a 70k one lady owner from new carefully driven 'quality' marque such as a VW!!

    Dont start that engine again till you find out for sure. These engins have a history of the chain stretching , jumping some teeth and the engine then mashes itself up.

    The tensioner fails not the chain stretching replace the bearing carrier chain and tensioner prior to this use a video camera to check for valve contact and if ok fit ad suggested takes around 4 hours
    vag diagnostics, retrofits and general repairs
