    Hi all

I currently have a b7 and looking to upgrade the single din.
Trawling the net I found a couple of people have installed a nexus 7 in the dash.
    I would absolutely love this!

this would be a long term project, as I don't currently have the funds. I would have to gather up all the parts and check it would work before starting.

    Parts Required:
Nexus 7 or any 7'' tab rooted -Tasker app
    double din cage
    strong magnets
acrylic sheet/fibre class to make a cradle
    Car charger
    usb hub
    Bluetooth obd?

my question is can I retain steering wheel controls somehow without having to place a headunit in the glovebox? how would I get sound out of Tab to car if doing away with headunit?
I could splice into speaker cables from the headphone jack but not sure that would work with bose system and thin wires.

also my car has telephone Bluetooth, will this be lost?

    any input is appreciated guys.

    Edit:
Having researched more I've seen this. CarPC Joycon
It converts the wheel motion from the steering wheel to usb input for a pc/tab but only works for resistive types.
Maybe a converter from canbus to resistive using an adaptor would work?

Getmonto YouTube and search for "amplified" there is a car audio shop in california called "soundman" and they specialise in fitting ipads to cars whilst retaining factory controls...they've done a few android tablets too.

thanks for that mate. this project is on hold for the time being due paying for a holiday! I've still been doing some research and I think the best way would be to do away with the CD changer and add an Aux input to the original head unit.
I would do a USB to aux input from the USB hub. This would be connected to a otg cable with a usb input mounted in one of the holes I have from the factory phone mount on the dash. I have decided that I would want the tab to be removable and not only be used for the car.
There are some pretty decent apps for the car on the android system. I think its called Carpc app on the android market don't quote me though.
I would probably use magnets to hold the tab onto the dash. using this setup I could retain the car's Bluetooth and steering controls for volume.
    Any thoughts?

sounds good to me..although i dont have much personal experiance of doing this...volume control should be fine in the configuration you've mentioned above...if you wanted to change tracks etc then you would need something this:
    http://www.soundmanca.com/products/s...ontrol-adaptor i imagine.

magnets and electronic equipment don't usually mix - might be wise to get a proper mount for it.

although the question I have is that given the price of a self contained double din unit that can do everything the nexus 7 can and more (inside a car) as well as ease of installation - why bother with the nexus 7 dash install at all?

    seems false economy to me
