Hi all I have a real problem. The front passenger door on my 2003 2.0 Passat is locked and will not open. I have managed to take the door apart in order to get to the lock but I am a little stumped as to how to get it to release with out breaking it. Anybody have any ideas?

Ok so to answer my own thread this is what I did.
I stripped the inner panels, done quite easily even with the door closed, although I have had plenty of practice with these panels in the past on a polo and a golf. Then, because I only have the one car, I decided to buy a replacement lock mechanism in case I broke the existing one in my attempts to release the door. To release the door I took a large flat head screwdriver and wedged it between the outer door frame and lock and pushed outwards (I was trying to break the lock without damaging the car so I got is well into the locking mechanism) after a few attempts the lock released and the door popped open. Since I had the new lock and did not feel like doing the repair on the old lock (already done before on a golf) I simply replaced the lock and put everything back together. On my inspection of the original lock I am fairly confident that it was not damage during this process and might still be repairable (I have not opened it to have a good look but there is certainly no indication of any broken mechanical parts).
