Fitting towing eye on Sharan 2011

I need to fit the towing eye onto my Sharan to tether a kayak being carried on the roof rack. I have tried to remove the bumper cover using what I think is reasonable force with my fingers but I cannot budge it. Can anyone give any specific advice please? The manual says push on the top of the cover, but all that seems to happen is that the whole of the cover and the area of bumper around the cover seems to move in unison. I've tried to get at the cover from behind the bumper but too congested with other stuff. Don't want to end of breaking anything.

Have tried front and rear bumper and the same both ends ;-)

Any advice?

Posting the solution in case it is useful to anyone. The manual would have been written originally in German I guess. Where it reads 'push the top of the cover' what you actually have to do is push the area of bumper above the cover, not the cover itself. This allows you to get a fingernail onto the top of the cover and pull it out. Sorted.
