    Buy a petrol...........

Seriously, it does seem odd to have needed to regen just 500 miles or so from new (I assume it's new?), my experience of regen DPFs has been almost transparent to the driver, admittedly this has been on MB up until now but not sure why there would be a difference.

usually the DPFs will only auto regen when the circumstances are correct ie, vehicle/engine speed, temperatures etc, they will not normally try to regen while "pottering" around, in these circumstances that is when the regen light pops up to let you know it needs to self regen and "please take me for an Italian tune-up".

Italian tune-up's can make the problem worse, it needs a constant speed at constant revs to clear the filter. Revving the crap out of it may create more soot.

Chris, in that case your idea and my idea of an Italian tune-up are different, mine is a good high speed run along dual carriageway or motorway to get the motor up to running temperatures, sitting stationary revving the guts out is what I call an MoT testers tune-up!

I'd always wondered what the noise was when parked up.
