    Hi,

My passenger side electric window has been playing up for a couple of months, i have not used it really since it started to make a horribe clicky grating noise.

Yesterday i set out to find what the problem was, i pulled the door card off and removed the motor and speaker and the sound proof material, i noticed some blue plastic fragments in the bottom of the door, i noticed the cables that run around the pulley that the motor joins onto were not seated correctly and were rubbing on the blue plastic holder, i pulled the pulley out of the blue holder and re-aligned the cables correctly, pushed the motor back on and the window went down and up fine, then it started making the noise again.

Pulled the motor off again and the cables had jumped.

Question is can i replace the cables and pulley without removing the whole window/frame from the door???

Also should i buy genuine audi (i have TPS account) or are there any decent pattern ones available??

    Thanks.

If you're replacing the cable using a repair kit, you'll struggle to get it on without removing the frame, it's not too difficult if you have the time, patience and tools

See here > DIY: B6 A4 Window Regulator & Motor Replacement

I bought my replacement cables (Passat, but I note he sells A4 too) from an eBay seller called Okzam who was so upset I dared to slate his shoddy product and even shoddier warranty he threatened the site with legal action

    Buy from TPS.

Considering selling my VCDS KEY-USB interface. If you're interested please contact me via PM or email.

Ok, thanks for the advice MYCARSAVW,

I suppose buy cheap, buy twice springs to mind.

I have priced up the part from TPS and they have a note on ETKA about buying some pop rivetts too, not too sure what is rivetted on but i may as well get them too. Price for regulator and rivets including the dreaded VAT is £101. Not cheap but probably not a job i want to repeat on a freezing cold January night!!!

I did the same. Bought from an auto factors for both sides and it failed within 6 months for the drivers side. I changed the drivers side with original parts and no problems. The write up on this site really helped the first time I did it.

    Pleasure

I agree, I've done so many cable replacements that I've sampled one from each end of the market and everything in between - nothing beats OEM for longevity and quality of construction.

I'd imagine the frame is riveted to the door/skin and/or the speaker is riveted there too - better grab them just in case anything goes a bit wonky. £101 isn't too bad and I doubt you'll have to change it again (at least on that door - hoho!) for another 10 years.

I've used both VAG & eBay window regs in the past on several different VAG cars. Never had to deal with rivets on any of them. Stuck 2 eBay front regs on my A4 B6 (£22 each with 2 yr warranty) 18 months ago with no issues so far. They appeared to be absolutely identical to the OEM ones.
