    Default Steering Knock – 16-07-2014,09:45 PM
    Hello. This is my first post in Audi section. Just purchased 2011 A3 1.6 tdi and there is a slight knocking when turning steering. It happens when moving forward or back at slow speed and turn the steering at the same time. Any ideas?

    Just a knocking noise? No belt squeal or grumbling/grinding noise?

    No just a slight knocking noise. It's like a number of knocks which increase the faster the steering wheel is turned.

    Oh right. I wondered if it was the same as I just had fixed (power steering pump & drive/auxillary belt with pulleys), but I had grumbling noises & squealing, do I doubt it is. Sorry I can't help further, hope someone else reads it who can offer help.

    I'm told it's the bearing at the top of the shock. Will see when repaired.

    If the bearing does not cure it,try inspecting the knuckle joints on steering column,I remember seeing a post suggesting that they can cause problems.
