A mate of mine has a VAG COM so im getting it looked at tonight. Been reading up a lot on this issue, and looks to be a very common fault, any drop in voltage to the ECU can cause this error...so im preparing for the worst case (65535 code). I saw a post where someone said they bought a new ECU for £120....just wondering if that was 'ebay' new.

    air bag light/2000 tt 225
I'm new to this site, but on a quest to sort out my air bag light.
About january time 2010,after a very cold night, my air bag light came on for no reason. Having it checked out by vag com, it said, "error code 65535 internal control module memory: checksum error.
I asked on this web site, about the location of the module on my tt, so i could fix it or replace it.
After months of forum searching, it appeaers that the reason for the error is that the control module is situated right under the heater. So on cold nights, the heater is on full, and consecuently "fries" the module.
The module has been sent away to a company, to remove the lock out.
Watch this space! Will report later.

Sent module away to The Air Bag Module Reset Company, on mon. spoke to Mark, the owner of the company, he told me a lot of useful information on how the system worked. this gave me a lot of confidence in him. He sent my module back, unlocked, on the following fri.
I then refitted the module, cleared the codes with the free downloaded "vcds lite" from Ross-tech, and presto no more air bag light.
The total cost was £45.00. from Mark, which included the postage. It cost me £5.50 postage to send him the module.
Very happy man, air bags now functional!

This is happened to me back in 2010, I don't know if the company is still operating. Taking out the module is an easy job you just need somebody to wipe the fault code.

    Good luck

Usually just a loose connection on the yellow plug socket under the drivers seat. Just cleaned mine and all sorted. A cheap £15 vag reset tool off ebay clears the codes... simples ;-)

I have just replaced the drivers door wiring harness on my MK5 as wires frayed and giving problems. I stupidly turned on the ignition while the wiring was disconnected and this has triggered my light to also come on. it may just be a fault which needs to be reset. currently looking for a cheapy VCDS to reset it or recompense to someone on here that already has one.
