My Defender needs a ticket and I can't be bothered welding and doing the multitude of jobs to get her through an MOT at the moment. I do however need to go and collect a large mower about 300 miles away and have a 16' twin axled Ifor Williams trailer. The seller will not entertain getting a haulier in to collect it. This would be an expensive trip in the Defender as I did a 1200 mile + trip to Poole to collect an E class Merc last year, so I thought the A3 might be a better idea, although I appreciate that it will be approaching it's max towable limit with the mower on board.

I have just ordered a Tow Trust towbar for the little A3 with a relay for the wiring and wondered if this wiring for the relay is going to be a nightmare for an electrical numpty like me. I don't have a problem with the bumper removal and towbar fitting but I do realise the wiring has to be spot on for the MOT etc. Anyone got any step by step advice please?

    PS I should have said she's a 2005 sportback 2.0ltr TDI

    Cheers!

Get a local specialist to fit or an independent garage as things can go badly wrong if you get a wire incorrect.

I fitted a Witter detatchable to my 2009 along with dedicated electrics and it works nicely.

Oh if you slide the towbar in and can't figure out why it won't go, you have to loosen the subframe bolt (I think it was this) either side, slide the towbar in, finger tight then re-do the subframe bolts.

Cheers Chris for the advice. Towbar and electrics arrived 10 minutes ago so will see if I can understand the diagrams.
