Got my 2003 Bora 1.9 TDI SE (ASZ) when it had 4,700 miles on it and it has been a brilliant car. Now has 95000 miles and getting a shuddering when braking to a stop (only when cold). Had the brakes and wheels checked and also got the ATF changed.......still got the shuddering when the engine is cold

Anyone experienced this with a Tiptronic gearbox?

    Any ideas?

    Crasher?

    Best regards,

    Mike

Using your reg I found that the car has the GNY code box and a new box would be part number 09A 300 036 X which is currently £3249.24 plus fitting......!

I do think that problem is gearbox related and so you will have to decide to live with it, sell the car or have it repaired. You could have the clutches removed, cleaned and inspected with new disc sets fitted but if you follow the procedure the £500 K1 (1st to 3rd) disc sets need nearly £2k of parts to be added so you may as well fit an exchnage box! It is a difficult one.

Thanks Steve. NOT what I wanted to hear though. I have really cherished this motor, she is in lovely condition but the sums you mention are more than the car is worth.
Just to grasp at straws......I've had the ATF changed 3 time since I've owned the car (since 4,500mls I late 2003) and somebody told me recently that I should have had the gearbox filter changed also. Is there a gearbox filter?

Yes there is a strainer but it won't help changing it, you have surface damage to some of the clutch discs.

Thanks for the expert advice Crasher. Think I'll go to the pub and cry in my beer!

Guess I'll have to buy the Tiguan I've been lusting over. Goodbye retirement fund!

    Best regards,

    Mike
