Obviously the C7 comes with a space saver emergency wheel, but after several bent/buckled wheels in various cars over the years, I'm not content to have just the emergency as a back up -

I plan to get a full sized 18" alloy and the same tyre type as my upcoming Ultra, and stick it away in the garage until/if ever needed

I'll be keeping an eye out on ebay for a suitable genuine wheel - what do you guys prefer to do?

The worst incident in the last few years was when my wife was driving a Passat CC and hit a small boulder at motorway speeds that had fallen off a skip lorry in front - bear in mind this is a genuine VW wheel and not some cheap knockoff

    Wheel looks OK, yeah?

A little closer inspection - entire circumference of wheel sheared right through - the tyre held up and was the only thing stopping the rim collapsing entirely

    Yes, scary.

I don't see how a full size spare would provide extra reassurance than a space saver if that incident happened again... Unless you were in the middle of a long journey and had to continue.

With a space saver you wouldn't be doing motorway speeds or just driving around with the space saver fitted so what am I missing?

My point would be that the spacesaver really ought to just to be for emergencies and not really for extended usage/high speed - to get you home as it were

At least if I had a full sized spare at home, I then wouldn't be dependent on the emergency wheel whilst I ordered up a replacement wheel from Audi for example

Found one for less than £150 on eBay, with a small kerb mark and a part worn tyre

It'll do for a spare to keep in the garage

Once I get a bit more spare cash later in the year, might look to get a set of these genuine 20" wheels - weren't an option on the S-Line
