I have AMI fitted in my 2005 A8.

currently I have organised my itunes music firstly in folders then individual play lists within those folders.

    for example

    1980's (folder name)
    The Police (playlist name)

    etc etc.

Thing is when iPod connected to AMI, the AMI doesn't see the folders just the playlist names and puts them in alphabetical order. So I have lots and lots of play lists but the first level structure ie. the folder names is missing resulting in my playlists being all over the place.

Is this the best it will get? Or is there a way to show the folder names? Or does anyone have a neater idea?

AMI on 2G won't recognise playlists within Albums, you either have a full playlist (within the Playlists option) or play a whole album (from the Album option) or play all tracks (from Tracks) and put them on shuffle.

Rename your playlists as 1980s_The Police etc? You might also have playlists just for each decade (should be able to do that easily with a dynamic smart playlist in iTunes), but I don't know what order all the tracks would be in tbh..

Biggest problem I find with AMI is having to scroll thru the 15000 tracks I have, with hundreds of artists/ albums. Wish I could dial a letter at a time to jump to an item a lot quicker. Never mind being warned about twiddling with a sat nav while driving - the AMI interface in my '08 A4 is potentially more of a hazard if I fancy listening to a particular track or artist while driving...

Thanks brantome that's a good suggestion. My iPod is 160gb classic of which 130gb is used so lots and lots of tracks and artists. I'll rename and see how I go from there. :-)

I renamed the playlists as suggested and this works a treat. There are still loads of playlists to scroll through but at least I'm familiar with the layout so can find things pretty quickly. Thanks again for the suggestion.

No problem. I had a play around with the 1980s etc smart playlists I have and they seem to maintain the order they're sorted in Itunes (artist) on my puny 120GB classic There were some posts on Ipod forums about the order on the Ipod being random, but there seems to be a workaround for this bug if you come across that - let me know and I'll point you in their direction.

Now, if I only had my A4 repaired (see my recent thread re clutch master cylinder replacement), I'd have something to plug my Ipod into
