Hi all hope the low brake pad warning light come on yesterday on my mk5 Golf 1.9tdi. The pads are certainly good for a long time yet but as I was double checking them this morning I come across this which I remember doing last time I was in there. The plastic surrounding the connectors smashed off and am hoping that its just corrosion on the connection that has put the light on.

This is the nearside and its broken after the wear pad indicator but before the split in the cable to ( Im guessing) the ABS ring. Could it be that the corrosion inside said broken connector has put the light on? Or is it likely to be something more sinister?
Incidentally while I was checking the offside I noticed there is only the one wire going to the other abs ring. Is the wear sensor onky on one side?

I have the same problem. (2004 Golf 2.0 GTTDI BKD) Brake pads are almost new but "Check Brake Pads" warning has come up on dash. My wear connector looks exactly like the top photo of this previous post. The Haynes manual shows one wire going to the sensor but there are obviously 2 and different colours than the Haynes legend!! I am happy to accept the lack of a warning lamp as it is regularly serviced but if I cut the plug off and join the 2 wires you see in the photo together will this remove the dash warning? Also does the wire need to be a certain gauge so as not to create added resistance or upset the ECU?
Thanks in advance for any replies.
    Rob

Yeah, joining both wires will put the warning light off. Any gauge wire will do. There's very little current flowing in the circuit.

If you want to do a proper repair, you can buy a new connector housing from the VW dealer. There is a part number on the connector. 1J0.....

Many thanks for that Jim, I'll try joining the wires before cutting the plug off.
