Hi ive just bought a 2006 3.0tdi auto allroad and I need to fit a towbar for pulling my caravan, whats the options? Ive read that audi dont supply the fridge charging wire kit as standard? Ive noticed on the on board computer it has an option for towing? will it already have the towing equipment installed and just need the detachable? and what sort of cost am i looking at fitted? Ive also read it could need enabling on the computer???

    Help much appreciated.

Have a look in the boot, on the left hand side behind a removable cover and see if there is something with a light on top of it.

Look in your owners book and it should illustrate what I'm talking about if the towbar is present.

If not, then contact PF Jones

I had an aftermarket towbar fitted by an independent company (about £450) - had a bit of a mare with the air suspension light coming on intermittantly - ended up being a faulty box the company had installed. Poor lad was back and forward several times trying to fix it!

I tow a caravan with a 2.7 allroad - it's a lot bouncier than the Land Rover Disco that we used to tow with but does pull away easily at junctions!

Not towed with anyother cars so don't know if it's down to the air-suspension in the allroad or just a smaller towing weight (the disco could pull 3.5 tonnes allegedly!), the MPG does go down by about 10 mpg but still doesn't hit the 15 - 20mpg I got with the disco!

Hello Tetchy, I hope you sorted your tow bar out! I have the same car, I got mine almost 2 years ago now, one of the attractions being that it has the factory-fit retractable tow bar. However at the moment, it seems to be stuck in the Out position. No a problem for towing, but I can't stow it back under the bumper. Maybe it is me, the knob for releasing it doesn't half take some turning. With the factor fit tow bar, and the suspension set in automatic, the car recognizes the attachment of a caravan. Not sure hat happens to the suspension, but the symbol on the suspension setting screen changes to show a trailer behind the car, and an extra indicator flashes when towing. When towing, I get the same sort of mpg as my previous 2.5 Allroad gave solo!
