So my wife tells me the other day that she has some lights on her dash, unfortunately she could not tell me when they came on or what was happening at the time

I've scanned it a got these faults, looks like the engine has an intermittent short somewhere on a supply line which worries me a bit (don't like shorts on main power supply wires, especially with my wife and son in it).

Does anyone know any common places where any shorts can occur or has seen this before?

Clear all the codes then do a stop/start about 10 times. you can do this over a day or 2 then rescan. Those codes could be years old. You can check code meanings here Ross-Tech Wiki

Cleared codes yesterday and told the wife to tell me if the light comes on again during the week.

Codes were cleared a while ago when the engine speed sensor failed so they are all new which is why I suspected a supply cable (Lots of shorts to ground listed). My other worry is the ECU has an intermittent fault

hmm, possible, it is about 4/5 years old

She now tells me it has occasional problems starting where it turns over but wont fire for a while then starts to fire but wont start

Any of those tyre/battery or Halfords places will test it for free. 5 years is PDG for a battery

Today it cut out in traffic, so my wife got to the kerb, left it for a min then tried to re-start it. Luckily it started first time but the dash light was up again.

Scanned it again when I got in and found the same engine faults as above.

So, I have now looked at the circuit diagram and it would seem that all supplies lead back to the fuel pump relay which in turn is supplied by a 50A fuse on top of the battery.

The fuse is fine so it leads me to believe the problem could lie with the fuel pump relay, but that could be the connections to it, the switched supply from the ECU or the wire from the fuse.

Has anyone else had relay troubles like this?

Had a chance to do some work on this today, replaced the fuel pump relay and took it out.. 50miles so far without missing a beat, fingers crossed I was right
