£700?!?! I think a drill like that would be wasted on an amateur like me.

Got myself a new socket set today, which I'll be trying out on my rear lights tomorrow to drill air holes in the rear clusters. Straight after I do the other jobs on my list (from the missus) like finishing wallpapering, ckeaning the backs of the skirting boards & tidying the house. Might even be abke to fit some work in tomorrow too!

Looks like drills & screwdrivers are the tools of choice so far. 1 vote for a torque wrench (a very decent looking one too Doc), my vote for the jigsaw & Gupsterg's, which we'll categorise as 'other' lol.

As Jack Dee once said 'to men, a cordless drill is basically a gun. We all like to pretend we're James Bond when nobodys looking' The good old hammer has to be mentioned too.

Haha, very true. Why do you think my next toy will be a nail gun?

Cordless drill is good, although the batteries on mine are getting weaker and weaker - need to buy a Li-Ion one.

I like my bandsaw and planer-thicknesser, although I haven't used them much since buying them.

A hammer is always good - I like my Estwing 16oz leather handled one.

Scariest tools I don't really like using, but they are about the only way to do some jobs:

9" angle grinder (mainly used for cutting paving slabs etc)

Chainsaw - apparently, if it kicks back, the blade can jump up and hit you in the head in about 1.0 seconds, but it's Ok, because the chain brake stops the chain in 0.9 seconds. This is outside my preferred factor of safety, so I wear a hard hat and goggles, and keep my body to the side of the line of the blade.

Compound mitre saw - Not too bad about this one, but I'm still not sure I trust it after it decided to chew up and spit out chunks of its blade guard, one of which took a chunk out of the top of my finger and thumb. Blade guard replaced now and I'll be checking it before use every time from now on.

Just make sure you wear very good safety goggles with the grinder as when I was using my 9" grinder I wore the dewalt sun goggles type of safety goggles. I ended up getting 3 pieces of metal in my eye which the hospital removed with a needle. Now I don't wear the dewalt safety goggles anymore for grinding I now wear different goggles to cover my eyes fully

i wear fully enclosed goggles with tape over the silly air vents. you just can't be too careful with grinders, not just big ones but anything that makes sparks...

What is a tool? Is it a device or implement, esp, one held in the hand, used to carry out a particular function. My favourite is a bourbon snifter I got for my 30th

Never seen one of those in Homebase. I'll ask the staff next time I'm in, see what their reaction is.
