Ive a 06 1.9 TDI Passat. When the a/c is set to Lo and Econ off the car struggles to blow cold air. I've had the system topped up and it holds pressure. Accessing the climatronic diagnostics and watching the coolant pressure it struggles to get above 7/8 bar but can sometimes get to 16 and stay there for a few minutes resulting in a nice icy blast! I've scanned using VCDS and no faults are shown for HVAC.

See the screenshots below with temp set to Lo from VCDS and am starting to think it is the compressor it's just the intermittent ability to build pressure confuses do they fail in this fashion?

Thanks in advance for any help!

Was out today and using the climatronic diagnostics it was showing over 24 bar in pressure at times with no cold air and falling back to 8. Temp was set to Lo. Anyone got any ideas whats at fault?

See if turning it hot makes it get hotter, if it doesn't it's got to be either the swichgear or maybe the canbus unit.

I notice you're not getting any fresh air intake, I wonder if the pollen filter or the bulkhead vent is blocked.

Turning the heat up does make it hotter. I'll checks the vents but I think they're ok pollen is the one under the glovebox right? Shouldn't I still get a temp though or does it require airflow?

Ok I left the diagnostics on again today and switched between compressor pressure and Evap temp. Pressure eventually got up to 17/18 bar and Evap temp 10-13 c. Air was cool but not cold. Gazza just wondering what make you think it's the sensor? Does anyone know what the pressure should peak at?

It was just a thought. Above article maybe helpful. I actually bought a sensor when I had a recent problem which was of my own making.
Ps it's for sale. Hope you get sorted

Had a quick read of the pdf here in work. I think I'll need to study it more closely later! What was your problem if you don't mind me asking?

Inadvertently had removed a fuse following sticking a screwdriver in the wrong place when putting interior LEDS in. Then my partner took the car so didn't realise there was anything wrong till a few days later. As a result I bought a new G65 but realised eventually that it was my error but in the meantime got a free ac refill at Kwik fit and bought myself VCDS. Within my research I found out a bit about the G65 & it's function hence why I think it could be your problem. Happy to sell t a forum member at cost price.

Ok so as I understand it the G65 sensor monitors refrigerant pressure, fan activation and speed and the indirectly controls the compressor clutch. From reading the pdf and the freeze frame above a couple of things stand out or maybe it's nothing!

Pressure 6-8 bar is almost ambient so compressor is doing nothing yet .8amps is the clutch fully engaged.

If the g65 is faulty I can't trust pressure readings (They're derived from it right?) yet with the clutch fully engaged no cooling is occurring but this could be down to the low fan(9.6% vs 0% requested) speed not cooling the condenser enough so that the refrigerant ever liquifies preventing adequate cooling.

This may explain why after a period of driving it improves slightly I'll check the fan operation and condenser condition tomorrow or am I just making the pieces fit!!

How much for the sensor btw?
