Here is your challenge for the weekend!

How can I release what appears to be a deadlocked drivers door on my 1999 Mk4 Golf GTi???

I recently fitted a new drivers door lock following a lock failure (ebay item sold as working), checked the operation, all appeared to be working OK before I closed the door to check it opened alright....I can't now open the flipping door at all! Its jammed!

So far, I have done the following:-

    1) Remote and door handle operation does not release lock, although the lock sounds like its operating and the mananual lock button at the top oof the door rises and falls.
    2) Using the Chrome interior door handle does not release the lock.
    3) Using the key in the lock also does not release the lock.
    4) I have stripped off the door trim, removed the glass and pulled back lifting mechanism carried panel and have tried levering the lock mechanism, still locked.
    5) Have tried hooking the various bits of the lock from out side....nothing.

Its really weird as when you operate the central locking, key fob or door pulls, it seems to all work correctly, but I can't open the door.

I suspect that the so called 'working door lock' off fleabay is faulty. I have now purchased a new replacement lock off my local VW dealer but can't get into the door to remove the lock!

    What else can I try????

Anyone any ideas? How would they deal with this at an accident repair centre if it was a broken lock?

    I am at a loss........

Problem now sorted.....had to get inside, strip off the door panel and smash the lock off!!!

All now replaced with the brand new lock! Works a treat.

The moral I think is just be careful what you buy from Fleabay as although the parts may well be sold as working, there is no guarantee that is always the case.

I am a happy chap now...great to have her running again!
