    Hi.

Does anybody know if it's possible to make the brake lights flash (by re-coding using VCDS) under heavy braking or normal braking similar to the F1 pit lane light flash?

Not sure if it's legal but I think it's an attention grabber when braking and might be a nice mod. Might keep crap drivers from tailgating a bit too.

I think the A4 B8 boys tried and failed on this.

    Take a look at
Vehicle Braking Indicator by Pete Rose; progressive brake lights, led tail light.

They make an additional high level brake light that does that, it has 2 different modes. It uses LED's, but to use this you would, (I think), have to disable the existing one, with all the accompanied warnings, and fit the complete VBI unit as an accessory. Don't know if the sender unit could be wired into the existing Audi light, I think that would need someone with some seriously deep knowledge to do that though, as the LED's light up independently, expanding across the light bar as the G force increased, (they stay flashing for as long as the brake pedal is held on after coming to a stop, the unit then resets as soon as the pedal is released).

I have one of these units that was fitted to a pre CAN BUS system, and very good it was/is too.

I'm a bit confused about the legality of this - it seems there's an EU directive that is being used to overrule UK law? Can't work out if this is something we should be promoting or not

FYI - it won't help tailgaters, unless you like them sitting in your boot - slamming on with a tailgater behind is the worst thing to do, but I don't need to tell you that - it's common sense

The Wifes Alfa Spider does this under emergency braking, so it must be okay under C & U regs.

    VCDS Coding
    [46 - Comfort System]
[Coding - 07] [Long Coding Helper] Byte 8
Bit 0 -- Emergency Brake Flashing via Turn Lights active (1 = active)
Bit 1 -- Emergency Brake Flashing via Brake Lights active (1 = active)

Now would above work on later A6's with long coding ...

Ref link:- Audi A6 (4F) Comfort System - Ross-Tech Wiki

    [46] - Comfort System

    Channel 050: Adaptive Brake Light

    • +1 = Emergency Brake Blinking
    • +2 = Brake Light Surface Amplification (only Sedan)

Note: Adaptation value is the sum of the individual options.

So above is what should work with A6 will have to try tomorrow as my laptop & VCDS not at home ...

Wouldn't it be more sensible & beneficial to get the hazards to flash under heavy braking? Some cars do this off the production line & I can see the value in it. For the brake lights to flash might just be more of a distraction/confusion to those behind.
