    Hi

Can anyone tell me what tools would be needed for changing the timing belt on a PD aVF engine 1.9 TDI, I know there is a Camshaft locking tool.

I was looking at buying a Diesel/ petrol locking kit, it does say for VW's. but not sure if there is any other special kits needed.

I looked into this and ended up paying the local garage £100 to fit the belt kit I bought from VW for £60.

As the tools cost around £75 it was easier to leave it to the pros.

    Hi
Looking to do the belt on mine along with a new water pump and tensioner.
It was changed by the main dealers 25000miles ago back in 2004. The car is very low mileage but because of the age of the belt i'd like to replace it.
I've been looking at that site for the correct locking tools.
I have an AFN TDi engine but i'm having trouble selecting the exact tooling required. Can't find a suitable lock for the camshaft sprocket. (neither could the main dealers judging by the previous paint marks!!........is this normal practice to replace a cam belt i wonder???).

No trouble with this one Tensioner laser 3107

the fuel pump lock is the one that has me unsure. The lock pin on kit 3978 seems too small diameter to locate through the guide hole and the crank lock i can only assume it will fit???
sorry about the pic. I think the guide hole is at the bottom of the sprocket in this picture or could the notch in the sprocket need lining up somewhere?

Can you (or anone)tell me which tools will fit mine and if the ones you bought worked on the engine you were changing the belt on?
    Any links or advice welcome.
    Thanks

spiritse: the PD cambelts on passats are quite easy to do.....id do it on the cheap if live in south east.
on the PD engines the camshaft can be locked with just a 6mm drill bit....and the crankshaft locked with a special tool off ebay for about £20 pound.

That looks like the correct sized guide pin for the fuel pump. And i can see the tensioner will work. How does that cam lock fit? it's not looking that obvious to me yet?
My car is a TDi SE registered in 1999 with an AFN engine, so how do i tell it's a VE engine and what does the VE and PD abbreviation stand for? It seems like there was a changeover of engine design around 1998-9, thats why i'm having trouble finding the tools.

I bought a tool kit from Ebay, not sure of the seller, total kit cost me £24.00. thought when i looked at the kit it was like a toy but done the job nicely, i was also given some extra tools incase there was a different type tensioner.
