    Hi,

I own a 2000 Golf GLS, bought it brand new, and just recently the immobilizer started acting up. It is totally unpredictable: sometimes it would prevent the vehicle from being started mid-day, even if it hasn't been driven that day, most times it starts OK in the morning, but I believe there is a tendency of it acting up after it was driven for a while, turned off, and then 10-15 minutes later wouldn't start. The strange part is that if I put the key in the ignition, I switch it on (without trying to start it up), and I let it sit for exactly 10 minutes, it "resets" itself, and it would let me start it. I took it to my mechanic, but he was clueless. He called the dealer and a VW "specialist", but they couldn't figure out what the problem is.

Is there a way to deactivate / bypass this immo feature? I believe it is an immo 2....

Thanks for any help you might provide...
    Milu

I live in the US, Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Any suggestions as far as doing it myself?

    Thanks for replying.

Have a look at the 14th post on this forum here http://forums.tdiclub.com/showthread.php?t=105291

I can't vouch for the success or side effects of this method but it appears to have solved the problem for the original thread starter.

Do let us know how you get on.

Have you got a spare key? Friend of mine had similar problem and it was the key that was causing the problem. Try your spare and see if you get the same problem.
