Just thought I would stick my 2 cents for tyre choices.

Still had the Nankangs on 18" winter alloys Saturday. A very good tyre in the snow that we had a while back. The wife, who was left to fit them said they were very quiet, and when I got home, I had to agree.

Changed back to the 19" summer tyres on Sunday, Pirelli on the rear and continental up front. The road noise was noticable straight away. I honestly thought the kids had cracked open the rear window. Anyway all the summer tyres were legal but only just so had ordered
4 x Avon ZZ5's (thought I had ordered Toyos but that was just old age) £650 fitted.

Today, Monday, got the Avons fitted and straight away, the road noise disappeared and all I was left with was the lazy humm of the 3.0 V6.

If all you are doing from day to day is driving along with the rest of the pack, these less expensive options are a good tyre.

Of course, there may be downsides like tyre wear, MPG and grip at extreme speeds but for me, these will do just fine.

Totally agree about the noise change. Fitted 18" ZZ5 fronts to my car recently - noise and grip both much better.

Just want to agree with you about the Nankangs.....as winter tyres they are very good indeed. Great traction on all kinds of winter roads and they wear extremely well too.
As for summers; I'm looking at Hankook Ventus V12s. Had them before and as a mid range performed flawlessly.

Having had a recent test drive in a Le Mans, 2 new front tyres, two rears 2/3 worn, I was amazed at how quiet it was! This was on a deadful piece of local B road at 60-70. Much much quiter than my C-max on the same road. Maybe you've all been spoilt by how quiet the A6 is!
