    I have been told that uneven tyre wear can lead to the condition above.

    I had new tyres fitted to the rear of my car this week leaving the fronts alone and the car indeed is noisier, but I'm not sure if it's the tyres or the diff

    Can anyone please confirm/deny this as it seems a rather worrying issue.

    what you hear or have heard sounds like utter bullsh*t, most probably why you have not had a reply back. just make sure you pay for the tracking and you will be fine

    It's not really a differential as such on a MK1 TT, it's a Haldex clutch.
    Whilst that may sound like splitting hairs, given that it really is totally different in operation, it's worth saying.
    To suffer drivetrain windup, the haldex system would need to be malfunctioning.
