polo 1.2 2007 resetting service light

First posting I think this is the right forum but apologies if its not.

I have tried pressing the clock/trip control with the ignition turned on but not started and holding the controller for 25 seconds,,then turning the ignition on, but it hasn't worked, any other ideas appreciated..

I have exactly the same model and I've (finally) managed to reset it using the following procedure:
1. start with keys out and two hands free
2. press in and hold the trip reset button
3. insert key and switch on the ignition
4. When display is blank apart from the spanner, release the trip button and turn it clockwise
5. turn ignition off
