    Morning All,

    My wife has just bought a 2003 "53" 2.0 Beetle convertible.

    All has been well with it in the first week or so but the Airbag light has just come on and will not go off. I have read on the internet a few sites saying there was a recall for this problem but I can only find this related to the USA and not UK. Is this anything that you guys know about and also maybe know what is causing the problem?

    Thanks

    scan the car for faults, clear the airbag fault and see if it comes back.

    I have scanned the car and cleared the fault but it has come back on again.

    the fault code is as below;

    01738 - Crash Sensor for Front Airbag; Drivers Side (G283) 004 - No Signal/Communication - Intermittent

    Is this likely to just be when the drivers side chair is moved forwards/backwards and is there an easy way to fix it?

    It will most probably be the crash sensor behind the front bumper - there is a technical bulletin for this fault and it involves replacing crash sensors of a certain type/number. To replace the sensors involves the whole front bumper and wing assembly coming off to gain access - if you have the work done make sure both senseors are checked and replaced to save time and money.

    I had the same problem on my 1.9 TDI cabrio. Had to replace the crash sensor in the end. Problem then fixed.
